Laws on automated driving
As of March 1, 2025, automated vehicles are permitted on public roads:
1. Automated Driving on Highways: Drivers of homologated Level 3 automated vehicles will be able to activate autopilot systems on highways. That means no hands on the wheel and no constant traffic monitoring—but they’ll need to be ready to take over if the system asks them to.
2. Automated Parking Areas: Vehicles equipped with parking automation systems will be allowed to park autonomously in approved, monitored lots. Regional authorities will oversee the designation of these areas.
3. Driverless Vehicles on Approved Routes: The ordinance allows Level 4 driverless vehicles to operate without a driver on authorized routes. These vehicles will be monitored remotely by operators who can intervene if necessary, making them ideal for logistics and last-mile passenger transport.
